Meet Paul Schoenfeld
By: @LickMyHarbaughs
Steve Sabins and his staff recently picked up their first commitment of this portal cycle from Colorado Mesa University outfielder Paul Schoenfeld. He is coming off a year where he slashed a whopping .425 with 9 homeruns, 55 RBI’s, and an OPS of 1.139. This kid can obviously hit the ball and has an outstanding glove and arm in the Outfield and is a great start to filling the roster of the 2026 season for the reigning Regular Season Big 12 Champs. I had the honor of getting to ask him some questions about his decision, and here’s what he told me.
Question 1: What attracted you to WVU?
Answer: What attracted me to WVU was the history and culture of the program. I feel like I have already created a remarkable relationship with the entire staff. They do a great job developing guys as not just ballplayers but men of character for the future.
Question 2: What about Steve Sabins made him a coach that you wanted to play for?
Answer: I think what really drove me to want to play for Coach Sabins was the offensive philosophy he teaches. I wanted a program that had similar teaching styles that I grew up with and had at Colorado Mesa. I also had the opportunity to watch him coach in the conference tournament and regionals. I was more than impressed with not only Coach Sabins, but with the entire staff.
Question 3: Did WVU making the postseason for three straight years and Super Regionals back to back years have an effect on your decision?
Answer: I would say overall the history of winning attracted my decision. Postseason play is the best part of the year but it is what happens during the season that makes it special.
Question 4: WVU has one of the most passionate fanbases in not only the Big 12, but the entire nation. What should we expect from Paul Schoenfeld?
Answer: They will get a hard working and passionate kid who wants to win and have fun playing a kids sport!
Question 5: On a scale of 1-10, how much do you hate the University of pittsburgh?
Answer: I don’t even know what their colors are or if they have ever made the postseason, so 10 for being irrelevant.
Paul is a massive get for this staff heading into a big 2026 season. He replaces the bat of Kyle West and the glove of Skylar King all in one. Excited to watch this staff bring in more recruits to keep this program heading in the right direction. The future
